The theme in question is the main theme from Preludr to Act I, from Verdi’s La Traviata.  The work is in three movemnts, From Vienna – From Vienna Again – Fuga, which are all pastiche.  The first movement treats the theme in a early-Beethoven sonata form framework, the second in a serialist Bergian world and the third as a subject for a Bach-style fugue.

The last movement was awarded 1st prize in the Lincolnshire Organists Association Composition Competition in 1999.
